QUARTERLY BOARD MEETING MINUTES

CASINO BUILDING, ROOM 112

In Attendance: Murray Pounds, Bill Carmichael, Sarah Gregory, Susan Geeslin, Peter Hill, Suzi Hassel, Theresa Ellis.

I. Call to Order - Meeting was called to order at 10:32 by President Murray Pounds

II. Approval of Minutes—A motion to approve the minutes from the March 19, 2025 made by Peter, seconded by Suzi. Motion approved unanimously.

III. FINANCIAL REPORT, TREASURER BILL CARMICHAEL

  • Financial Activity—Bill reported on fund balances for the club. $3,304 in Checking Account.

  • $25,350 Live Oak Account (added $10,000 since 1/1/25), also about $150 have been donated to our ball contributions over the winter.

  • Membership—Bill reported that we currently have 187 members.

IV. PICKLEBALL PADDLE BATTLE IV TOURNAMENT—April 12 & 13 at Mallery Courts

  • Financial Report—205 players for the tournament, $8,160 in entry fees. (See Bill’s attached budget/spreadsheet for tournament.) 13 sponsors, $2,800 in sponsor fees. Ameris Bank back out of their sponsorship after the shirts were done. This was very disappointing because both of our accounts are with them. A motion was made by Murray to authorize Bill to move our 2 accounts to another bank, seconded by Suzi. Followed by a short discussion. Motion approved unanimously. Theresa will speak with Jordan about the $100 clean-up fee. Tom donated his time.

  • Survey Results—only about 50 responded to survey, discussion about how to get more responses.

  • Raffle—raised $1,660 in raffle tickets, $38.07 mailing costs. A motion was made by Susan to donate $1,700 for Operation Bedspread, seconded by Theresa. Motion approved unanimously. Raffle prizes turned back in/not claimed--1) Sea Palms Golf Resort--1 round of golf for 4 players, Murray will check with our Thursday golfers for a small purchase. 2) Good Get $100 gift certificate—put on our Facebook page for $50 purchase. Discussed selling tickets next year for $5 each or 5 for $20. Check with Southern Pickleball about adding raffle tickets to online registration. Start raffling off prizes Saturday morning at the opening gathering. Have at least half given out by end of day Saturday.

  • 2026 Tournament Dates—April 11 & 12, 2026.

V. FALL TOURNAMENT

  • Partnership—with North Glynn folks

  • Format—all ages, not just seniors, Southern Pickleball to run format.

  • Location—North Glynn courts

  • Murray, Suzi, and Theresa talk with Theresa & Joe Peeples to getmore info & help organize the tournament.

VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS

  • Competition Committee—not met

  • Social Committee—Bike Riding on Jekyll Island Tues, May 13 th and then Beach Party is next- no date yet.

  • Social Media/Publicity Committee—Murray is working on finalizing the April newsletter.

VII. OTHER MATTERS

  • Elementary School Initiative— Murray will speak with Oglethorpe ES Tom Lemmon, PE Teacher to set up a time in the fall to teach Pickleball during PE. Tom said he would like k-grades 5 to learn to play.

  • Parks & Recreation Needs Assessment—There is no Master Plan but county is possibly deciding on a needs assessment.

  • Presentation to County Commissioners—Possibly talk with 3 commissioners for the need of more courts. Then during the Public Comment Time at a BOC meeting share our PPB IV results with commissioners and that leads into a discussion for more courts on SSI.

  • Shade Awning—is on order by county and should be completed by June.

  • Communications with County—Need to invite BOC, high-level county management, and Parks & Rec Director to all major events, Theresa will invite them by email to all of our events.

VIII. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 by Murray.
