Special Board Meeting

MONDAY, JUNE 9, 2025, 10:30 A.M.

In Attendance: Murray Pounds, Bill Carmichael, Mary Kline, Peter Hill,

Suzi Hassel, Susan Geeslin, and Theresa Ellis. Guest: Stephanie Hill

  1. CALL TO ORDER – Meeting was called to order at 10:32 AM by President Murray Pounds.

  2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES - A motion to approve the minutes from May 1, 2025, with a change to “IV d” to 2026, was made by Suzi, seconded by Peter. Motion approved unanimously. (I also noticed that Thursday was spelled incorrectly so that was updated.)

  3. FINANCIAL REPORT, TREASURER BILL CARMICHAEL Financial Activity – Bill reported on fund balances for the club. $3,388.53 in checking account, $25,493.66 in Live Oak Account. (Ameris Bank)

  4. Membership – Bill reported that we currently have 189 members.

  5. DISCUSSION REGARDING FILLING TRESURER’S POSITION Possible New Board Member(s) – After a brief discussion, a motion to nominate Stephanie Hill to the board was made by Bill, seconded by Mary. Motion approved unanimously, Peter abstaining.

    1. Potential Treasurer Candidates – A motion to nominate Stephanie Hill to be the Treasurer of SSIP was made by Bill, seconded by Susan, motion approved unanimously, Peter abstaining. A motion to add Murray and Stephanie to both of the banking accounts (checking & Live Oak Account) was made by Bill, seconded by Susan. Motion approved unanimously, Peter abstaining.

    2. Transition Issues and Timing – Bill, Stephanie, Mary, and Murray will get together to have all banking information transferred over by July 10. (Bill is moving July 24.)

  6. FALL TOURNAMENT Determine Need for Additional Tournament – We will plan on a one-day tournament on Saturday, November 8th. Stephanie will look into possible food trucks for the day.

    1. Format – It will include all ages & skill levels, fixed partners, men’s & women’s doubles only.

    2. Possible Benefitting Organizations – It would be great to tie it to a veteran’s nonprofit. Theresa will look into local veteran’s nonprofits and report back.

    3. North Glynn Fall Tournament -- North Glynn folks are planning a tournament September 27-28 for all ages with Southern Pickleball.

  7. COMMITTEE REPORTS Competition Committee, Identify New Board Liaison – With Bill moving, Sarah Gregory would a great chair as she is already on the committee. A motion to nominate Sarah Gregory to be chair for the Competition Committee, was made by Bill, seconded by Peter. Motion approved unanimously. Bill and Sarah (& possibly Murray) will get together for Competition Committee information.

    1. Social Committee – Suzi will meet to her committee about a date for the Beach Party and a Mini Golf Night in the fall. She will also discuss with LauraLynn about a possible Holiday Party at her house again this year.

    2. Social Media/Publicity Committee – May Newsletter was published on website, looking ahead to July Newsletter. Still looking for more members on this committee.

  8. OTHER MATTERS Elementary School Initiative – In the fall, we will hopefully be back volunteering at SSI Elementary School for their PE pickleball curriculum. We also hope to set up time with Oglethorpe Elementary.

  9. Presentation to County Commission – Murray spoke to the Glynn County Board of Commissioners during the public comment section of their meeting on Thursday, June 5th. He discussed the Pickleball Paddle Battle IV Tournament happenings and the benefits to the county it provided. He also mentioned the need for more courts on SSI. We will continue discussions with various commissioners.

  10. MorningStar Silent Auction – Mary reported that MorningStar is having an October Fest Silent Auction on October 18 at the MorningStar campus. She proposed that we participate by donating a pickleball basket filled with various pickleball items. A motion to support MorningStar by donating a basket to their October 18 fundraiser (up to $150 for the basket), was made by Stephanie, seconded by Peter. Motion approved unanimously. Susan and Mary will handle getting items for the basket.

  11. Date For Annual Meeting – Theresa will check on availability of room 108 for 5PM, Monday, December 1, 2025. Will check other dates that week if not available on the 1st.

  12. SSIP Trademarks – Stephanie will look into trademarking Bill Carmichael’s Pickleball Paddle Battle and our SSI Pickleball logo.
